Lab Q&A

Why do I need blood work?

Blood tests help Dr. Tagdiri identify a number of diseases or underlying health conditions. He also uses blood tests as part of your routine health monitoring.

Some of the common conditions Dr. Tagdiri can detect or monitor through blood testing include:

  • Diabetes
  • Cholesterol
  • Hormone imbalance

In some cases, you may need blood work to monitor a chronic health condition or because of abnormal results of a previous blood test. Dr. Tagdiri may also use blood testing to monitor how effectively medications are working or to ensure you’re healthy enough to undergo certain therapies or surgery.

What’s can I expect during a blood test?

Dr. Tagdiri performs blood testing in a comfortable office environment. Depending on the reason for the test, he may draw only a small sample of your blood through a simple finger prick or by using a needle to extract blood from a vein.

In some cases, several vials of blood may be needed to provide Dr. Tagdiri with enough information about your condition.

How do I prepare for a blood test?

Many blood tests require no special preparation. However, Dr. Tagdiri may request that you not eat or drink for several hours before certain tests, such as tests that measure blood sugar levels when checking for diabetes.

It’s important that you stay relaxed during the blood withdrawal process. This will allow your blood to flow more effectively, and it will help prevent bruising and swelling at the insertion site.  Most blood draws only take a few minutes, but you can bring a book or your favorite music to occupy your time.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Results from your blood test may only take several minutes if the in-office lab can complete the analysis. In some cases, results may take several weeks if additional analysis from an outside laboratory is necessary. Once Dr. Tagdiri is able to review your results, he will contact you.
